Elko Takes the Spotlight as a New TV Show Premieres,
Revealing the Real Work Behind the Scenes
An upcoming premiere in Elko will give the community a first look at a new television series filmed locally, but what viewers will see on screen only tells part of the story.
Wrecked & Rescued will debut with a special premiere event on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 6pm, at the Elko High School Performing Arts Building. The evening is planned as a red carpet event, featuring appearances by Vanderpump Rules cast member Peter Madrigal and award-winning pop singer Lika O, along with live performances and a first look at the series. Organizers have also hinted at a surprise announcement tied to an after party following the screening, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event.
Tickets for the event are available in advance, and attendees can purchase them by scanning the QR code.
The series, which highlights Atlas Towing & Recovery, brings a national lens to work that often goes unnoticed but plays a critical role in public safety and emergency response.
Behind the scenes, the work required to capture that story is closely tied to the work itself.
That connection was evident during a training exercise in Elko, where the Elko Fire Department and Atlas Towing & Recovery conducted a full-scale tanker rollover simulation. The exercise was designed to replicate one of the most dangerous scenarios first responders encounter, requiring coordination, technical skill, and precise timing.
At the scene, a tanker lay overturned as crews moved into position. Commands were exchanged steadily, and each step followed a methodical process shaped by training and experience.
This was not a response to an actual accident, but it was treated as if it were.
Exercises like this are essential in preparing crews for emergencies where lives, roadways, and the surrounding environment may be at risk. In these situations, there is little margin for error. Teams rely on preparation, communication, and repetition to respond effectively. “Logistics were one of the biggest hurdles,” said Executive Producer Anthony Gusumano. “You can’t schedule a major rollover or a late-night recovery. We had to be ready 24/7, with crews on call alongside the Atlas team. Safety was non-negotiable.”
For Atlas Towing & Recovery, the training also provided an opportunity to work with new airbag systems and recovery equipment. The exercise reinforced the level of technical expertise required in modern towing and recovery, a field that often operates out of public view but plays a vital role in keeping roadways safe and operational.
What made this training different was that it was also being documented as part of the series.
The production team for Wrecked & Rescued filmed the exercise as it unfolded, without staging or directing the response. There were no retakes or adjustments for the camera. The goal was to capture the work as it happens, providing a realistic view of both the preparation and execution involved in these operations.
“On a show like this, the goal is to stay invisible, letting the firefighters and Atlas crew take center stage while capturing the energy of each rescue,” confirmed Brandon Sides, Director of Photography.
The series follows Atlas Towing & Recovery as they handle challenging recoveries across the region, while also highlighting the people behind the work and the demands of operating in a close-knit community.
Filming in Elko has been supported by local agencies, businesses, and community members, allowing the production to document real scenarios while maintaining safety and professionalism. That level of cooperation has made it possible to capture moments like the recent training exercise without disrupting the work itself. “The Atlas family is extremely grateful for the opportunities that we experienced within our community. While the premiere will showcase the series, it also reflects the effort behind both the work being filmed and the process of bringing it to screen.
The training exercise is one example of that effort. It represents the preparation required to respond when real incidents occur and offers a closer look at the coordination and discipline behind those responses.
When the next call comes in, whether it involves a rollover, a spill, or another high-risk situation, these crews will be prepared because of exercises like this.
The July 30 premiere gives the community a chance to see that preparation from a different perspective, not just as an event, but as part of the ongoing work taking place every day in Elko.
