Northeastern Nevada Stewardship Group volunteers are staying very busy since hosting the special session speakers during the 2025 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. This year’s topic was “Creeks and Communities.” The lively discussion was populated by a panel of respected ranch owners and rangeland experts.
The Rangeland Monitoring workshop, always an annual success, and was held at the Western Folklife Center in March.

The annual Nevada Wild Fine Art exhibit continues at the California Trail Center through April 30th. The exhibit, Nevada’s Cultural Landscapes book – free download and online Artists biographies have been a very popular addition to the exhibit this year. Californiatrailcenter.org

Low Tech Based Riparian Restoration Workshop
The group is planning a “Low Tech Based Riparian Restoration Workshop” on May 26th and 27th near Eureka. Sherm Swanson and others will introduce participants to low tech restoration techniques to reduce erosion within a meadow system that supports sage grouse habitat. Register by May 26th. There is a March 13th class, too.
Nevada Youth Range Camp
Applications for Nevada Youth Range Camp, June 15-16th, are due May 2nd. The camp is for high school age kids (15-18 years old) that are interested in natural resources, including wildlife, plants, soil, water and more – they will be immersed in the living laboratory of the Schell Creek range. Scholarships are available with an essay submission.
