Food Truck Fridays
Submitted by Jennifer Morreale, Old Timey Ice Cream
It’s no secret there has been an explosion in the number of food trucks in Elko County in the past couple years. This phenomenal growth is consistent with what has happened all over the US since the pandemic. Food truck Fridays have also become popular community events across the country. Locally, Food Truck Fridays started a couple years ago in Spring Creek and expanded to Elko last year. This year, these events will be even bigger and better, offering fun and food for the whole community.
One of the best things about Food Truck Friday is the variety of food choices. Bring your friends and family and try dishes from every truck. Maybe you’ll start out with some hot wings or loaded waffle fries from The Tasty Truck. Or maybe you’re in the mood for pizza? Did you know Pop N Pizza also has cauliflower crust and non-dairy cheese? You can eat like royalty with one of Kingdom Grub’s steak sandwiches, or feast on a juicy burger from The Lunchbox. Korean Balance will also be grilling up their Korean BBQ, and they even make their own kimchi. You can also enjoy a fresh shrimp cocktail or a famous California Burrito from Tacos Las Brisas. Quench your thirst with soda, cocktails, or specialty lemonades. Botanos el Grillo is the newest food truck in Elko and serves a variety of Mexican snacks. Of course, there are also plenty of options for your sweet tooth. Nuts Under a Buck has fresh mini donuts in a variety of tempting flavors, or you can enjoy a refreshing snow cone from Tropical Sno. Finally, finish your meal with some ice cream nachos or other sweet treats from Old Timey Ice Cream. You’ll also be able to grab some goodies from Ellie’s Fresh Fruit, Bates Makes, or other licensed cottage food vendors.
Event Source will again be providing a bounce house at each event so the kids can have some fun while you eat and visit. Everyone’s favorite face painter- Cheeky Doodles- will also be at both events in May., creating fun and whimsical designs for everyone!
Elko’s first Food Truck Friday will be happening Friday, May 5 from 10am-7pm at 291 Idaho St. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch for your office or staying to enjoy a relaxing Friday evening, it’s the place to be!
Spring Creek’s first event will be May 19 from 3pm-7pm at The Hub at 232 Spring Creek Parkway. A new addition to The Hub this month is LIVE MUSIC from Cody and Cody from 5-7pm. They’re an acoustic duo who covers multiple genres and artists like Johnny Cash, Sublime, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and more.
As the days get longer, hours for both Food Truck Fridays will be extended. You’ll be able to find all your favorite food trucks the 3rd Friday of each month in Elko and usually the 4th Friday of each month in Spring Creek. Each event will be advertised right here in the Everything Elko magazine, as well as posted in the Facebook group called “The Hub- Elko –County Food Trucks.” For questions, please contact Jennifer Morreale at 775-385-2582.
