The Elko Giving Machine Returns for the 2026 Holiday Season
The spirit of giving is returning to Elko this holiday season as The Light the World Giving Machine initiative, Sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, comes back to the Northeastern Nevada community.
Beginning December 11, 2026, through January 2, 2027, residents from Northeastern Nevada will once again be able to make a difference through this unique and interactive way of giving. The Giving Machine allows individuals and families to select specific gifts that provide meaningful assistance to people in need.
This year’s Giving Machine will feature five local organizations that are making a difference throughout Northeastern Nevada community: Communities In Schools, Elko Senior Center, Horizon Hospice, Head Start of Northeastern Nevada and Nevada Health Centers.
Each organization plays an important and unique role in our community. Communities In Schools supports students and helps them overcome challenges that can interfere with their education. Elko Senior Center provides programs, services and connections for local seniors. Horizon Hospice offers compassionate care and support to patients and families during difficult times. Head Start of Northeastern Nevada helps young children and families build a strong foundation for the future. Nevada Health Centers works to provide access to important healthcare services for individuals and families.
The Giving Machine makes it easy for community members to support these efforts. Instead of simply placing a donation into a collection box, donors can select a specific item or service to provide. It is a hands-on experience that helps people see how their generosity can translate into tangible help for someone else.
One of the most important things to know is that 100% of donations made through the Giving Machine go directly to the participating nonprofits. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints covers all administrative costs. Every gift is an opportunity to support the important work these organizations are doing in our community.
The Giving Machine is also a wonderful opportunity for families to teach children about what it means to give to others. Children can participate by choosing a gift, typing in the number and watching the card fall into slot below. It’s a fun way to learn that the holiday season is about looking for ways to help others.
The Giving Machine will once again return to the same location as in the past two years, just down from Marshalls (to the east).
Look for us in the Elko Veterans Day Parade on November 11, 2026. Our volunteers will be handing out flyers with information about this year’s Giving Machine and the local charities they support.
Most importantly, we want to take a moment to say thank you to our Northeastern Nevada Community! Your generosity in past years has been extraordinary. The gifts made through the Giving Machine has helped change lives, support families, provide care for those in need and strengthen the work of organizations serving people throughout our communities. Every donation, large or small, has been part of something bigger.
Your generosity has shown what can happen when a community comes together in the spirit of compassion and service. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has stopped by, donated, encouraged a friend to give or simply helped spread the word.
As the holidays approach, we invite Northeastern Nevada to come together once again. Stop by the Giving Machine, choose a gift and help support the local organizations working every day to make a difference in the lives of our own friends and neighbors.
Come see the Giving Machine, make a gift and help Light the World right here in Northeastern Nevada.
