Cool Canyon Evenings
Submitted by Larry Hyslop
The Friends of the Ruby Mountains are offering another year of Cool Canyon Evenings. Memories are a bit fuzzy but this is at least their eighth year. They are able to offer these great evenings because of partners. The U.S. Forest Service graciously donates the group picnic site at Powerhouse Picnic Area each year. The Lamoille Women’s Club sponsors the S’mores offered at each event.
They have offered quality programs year after year because of their presenters. They especially appreciate the Dutch oven cooking demonstrations put on by Duane and Delynn Jones, who have offered this all eight years.xParticipants aways enjoy learning about Dutch ovens and enjoy the sweet treats created in Dutch ovens during the presentation.
Personnel from the California Trail Interpretive Center have offered presentations on pioneer children chores and games, plus the always popular gold panning. Jan Petersen has offered evenings highlighting Shoshone baskets and the Lamoille Power Generation Station with Judy and John Byers. The Nevada Department of Wildlife has offered evenings on animals of the Rubies and fishing the Rubies.
This year will be another set of great activities for adults and children alike. They are a nice way to spend summer evenings in Lamoille Canyon.
