Ten years! The DBA Ghost Tour is celebrating 10 years this October, 2024.  This year’s tour will be held on two weekends-October 18 & 19 and Nevada Day weekend, October 24, 25 & 26. Rounding out the ghostly atmosphere will be an almost full moon.

Tickets will be $40 and limited to 50 each night. Tickets may be purchased through the DBA website. Must be 21+ to attend.

Stories from Elko County’s past will come alive during the tours. Adult liquid refreshments and appetizers will be served. Attendees must be 21 and over. The Tours begin at Living Stones Church and then rotate to the Silver Dollar Bar, Stockmen’s Hotel, and wraps up at Rubies Sports Bar. Tickets are $40 and only available online at the Downtown Business Association website: https://elkodowntown.org/ghost-tour/or check out information on their Facebook page – Elko DBA.

This year’s Ghost Tours feature true, colorful and sometimes, grisly, stories from Elko County’s past told in first person by local personalities. The evening begins with James Glennon telling the story of Newton Crumley, owner of the Commercial Hotel. Then, Sharon Owen will tell the story of a double murder near the Telescope Hotel and the “restricted district” in 1918. Next are one weekend of Irv Moore and another of Mason Simons relating the death of Cherokee Charlie Snead near the Commercial Hotel on October 30, 1896. The tour wraps up with the story and ultimate demise of a true western desperado, Rattlesnake Dick as told by Scott Glennon or Derek Burwell. Jan Petersen will be the host for the evening.

These stories are actual events and true stories (some too incredible to be made up). It’s the DBA’s pleasure to present our community and downtown heritage. It’s important to share these stores to keep them alive….and it’s a lot of fun to learn these pages of our past.

The Elko DBA is a group of variety of small business owners located in downtown Elko. We are passionate about our beautiful city and want to see our downtown grow and prosper! Our goal is to promote a thriving economy through community events such as the Ghost Tour, Snowflake Festival, Wine Walks on second Saturdays, beautification and advertising.

Proceeds support the Downtown Business Association’s mission to promote, preserve and enhance the prosperity of the downtown area and support the overall betterment of the Elko Community.
