Elko Friends In Service Helping has been serving those in “crisis” for over 35 years in Elko County.

Crisis can manifest in various forms, including the lack of food, shelter, or clothing. Elko F.I.S.H. is dedicated to addressing these challenges by providing essential services to our community. We offer a range of food programs, a soup kitchen that serves nutritious hot meals, emergency shelter available 365 days a year, and a thrift store that provides vouchers for those in need.

Over the years, Elko F.I.S.H. has expanded its services to respond to the growing needs of the community. Currently, our agency serves approximately 5% of Elko County, offering more than five distinct food programs through our food bank. In addition, we provide case management support for clients and the public seeking assistance. We collaborate with community partners who offer services at our location, including the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services for SNAP and Medicaid. Our thrift store provides vouchers for individuals requiring support, and we also maintain an Outreach Room where hygiene products and other essential items are available at no charge. The Samaritan House Emergency Shelter offers 20 beds to provide temporary shelter for individuals and families in need. Our primary objective is to help them achieve self-sufficiency, which can vary greatly among our clients.

Below are some key statistics from the services and programs provided by Elko F.I.S.H. in our community over the past year.
