Boomer’s Sportsbook

Local Sportsbook Brings Nevada-First
Approach to Elko

In a sports betting landscape dominated by national corporate brands, one homegrown Nevada sportsbook has planted its flag in Elko with a simple promise: fair pricing, unmatched promotions, and a commitment to serving Nevada bettors first.
Boomer’s Sportsbook officially opened its doors at the historic Commercial Casino (on the Railroad Street side) in downtown Elko in August 2025, bringing a fresh alternative to sports betting in Northeastern Nevada. Founded by Joe Asher, a veteran of Nevada’s sports betting industry, Boomer’s positions itself as the independent, locally focused option in a market flooded with operators tied to big casinos.
“We’re not trying to be everything to everyone,” Asher explains. “We’re focused on serving Nevada bettors who want better value and a sportsbook that treats them as more than an account number.”
As Nevada’s only independent sportsbook, Boomer’s believes that demand exists well beyond the state’s major metro areas and the company is willing to invest in proving it.
While other Nevada sportsbooks concentrate their presence in Las Vegas and Reno, Boomer’s is deliberately opening locations in smaller cities and rural towns across Nevada. The strategy is simple: bring sports betting to everywhere people live, not just where tourists visit.
“For someone living in Elko, driving to Reno or Las Vegas just to register for a sportsbook account doesn’t make sense,” Asher points out. “We’re meeting bettors where they are. With knowledgeable employees, local customer support, and convenient locations like the Commercial Casino, we’re turning what others see as a regulatory burden into a competitive advantage.”
Nevada’s in-person account verification requirement for a sports betting account requires a customer to visit a retail location to activate their account, but after that is done, the customer can wager from anywhere in the state. Boomer’s currently operates at seven locations across the state from Elko and Tonopah to Carson City, Reno and Las Vegas. Boomer’s offers a full betting menu covering all major sports — baseball, basketball, football and more — with player props, futures and same game parlays.
The commitment to locals extends to the heart of the communities Boomer’s calls home. The sportsbook sponsored the Elko County Fair, an event close to Asher’s heart as he travels to Elko every Labor Day weekend with his son, Carson, to bet, watch and announce the races.
That community focus extends to the mining workforce that drives Elko’s economy. Boomer’s Miner promotion provides a $50 free bet to customers when they verify and fund a Boomer’s Sportsbook mobile account and show their Miner’s Employee ID card.
“The mining community is the backbone of Elko,” Asher says. “We want to show our appreciation for the hard work they do and give them a reason to choose Boomer’s as their sportsbook.”
Boomer’s is also becoming a fixture in Elko’s sports culture. The sportsbook installed a mobile deposit kiosk in Mattie’s Taphouse and Grill, which will host watch parties for major sporting events like the Super Bowl and March Madness and offer special promotions tied to Nevada and Boise State games.
Those community touchpoints are backed by a promotions strategy that’s just as locally minded. Through Boomer’s Rewards, the company’s loyalty program, regular customers earn free bets and exclusive perks. But Boomer’s is also thinking bigger, recently rewarding one lucky customer with something few operators would offer: two premium tickets to the Super Bowl, including flights and a hotel stay.
“Experiences like going to the Super Bowl aren’t just prizes, they reinforce the emotional connection fans have with sports and align with how customers actually want to be rewarded,” Asher says.
For Elko residents who have grown frustrated with impersonal corporate sportsbooks or expensive odds, Boomer’s represents a fresh option, one that combines Nevada heritage, better value, and a genuine commitment to the local community.
“At the end of the day, we’re not just a sportsbook,” Asher reflects. “We’re Nevadans serving Nevadans. We live here, we work here, we bet here. And we’re building something that this community can be proud to support.”
