The Nevada Institute of Forensic Nursing (NVIFN) is a pioneering nonprofit providing mobile forensic nursing, advocacy, and forensic interviews for survivors of violence and maltreatment including sexual assault, abuse, and domestic and interpersonal violence. As Nevada’s only mobile forensic nursing unit, NVIFN ensures trauma-informed care reaches underserved and rural populations, eliminating barriers to treatment. Available 24/7, the mobile unit allows forensic teams to travel directly to victims, offering a safe alternative to traditional healthcare systems.
Founded to reform forensic care throughout Nevada, NVIFN began in emergency departments where victims face long waits, unsafe environments, and significant travel distances for specialized care. Administrative barriers hindered progress, emphasizing the need for a survivor-centered approach. In 2022, NVIFN became a nonprofit, creating a comprehensive forensic care program tailored to survivors’ needs.
Today, NVIFN remains the only provider in Nevada offering mobile SANE-certified forensic nursing, forensic interviews, and long-term advocacy for all ages, from infants to seniors. This commitment to expanding forensic services has gained significant recognition. In 2024, NVIFN received the Visionary Voice Award from the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence. U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen also honored NVIFN with the Innovator of the Year Award for its groundbreaking mobile nursing unit. These awards underscore NVIFN’s impact and the urgent need for expansion.
Beyond accolades, NVIFN’s true success is measured in the lives it changes. In Nevada’s rural communities, forensic services are scarce, leaving survivors to navigate a complex system alone. NVIFN bridges this gap by delivering care directly to victims, reducing delays, and fostering a compassionate forensic process. The mission extends beyond medical treatment—NVIFN ensures survivors receive the advocacy, support, and trauma-informed care they deserve.
As NVIFN continues to expand, community support is critical. The organization is seeking donations for the upcoming Women in Business Event. Contributions will help sustain mobile services, forensic technology, and trauma-informed care for survivors statewide. By participating, donors make a tangible impact on survivors’ lives, ensuring continued access to vital forensic nursing.
NVIFN is reshaping forensic care in Nevada, ensuring every survivor receives timely, professional, and compassionate support, regardless of location. While progress has been made, the need for expansion remains. With ongoing community support, NVIFN will continue to grow, providing survivors with a pathway to healing mind, body, and soul.
Together, we can build a future where every victim in Nevada has access to the care and advocacy they deserve. Support NVIFN’s mission today: From Victim to Survivor!
