Elko’s Kindness Rock Garden

Article and photos submitted by Madison Wallock

Children, teens, and adults have been enjoying this unique garden since 2020.

This idea was sparked by several events. Co-author, Rome(5), has loved nature walks since he started walking. Since then he is always picking up rocks to bring home to add to his collection. Needing an activity to do one afternoon, Madison and Rome took markers to the rock collection and the rest is history.
Co-author, Kendall(2), has followed her brother’s lead and loves nature walks, collecting rocks, adding them to our home pile, and is now starting to scribble on them as well.

Rock painting is a fun family event from beginning to end. Whether you plan a simple neighborhood block walk or a hike in the beautiful Nevada hills and mountains, you can find rocks of all shapes and sizes that can be transformed into creative masterpieces.

Our family loves to gather to paint rocks and share our artistic creations. We do all sorts of themes. These include animals, camping, dinosaurs, Disney, fishing, flowers, foods, hiking, holidays, hunting, In Remembrance, inspirational quotes, landscapes, mermaids, music, monsters, Nevada Battle Born, patriotic, seasons, space, sports, Star Wars, Superheroes, trucks, unicorns, and weather.
In turn, our amazing community has added great variety to the themes.

Come as you are, take what you need, leave what you can, spread rocks wherever you’d like and most importantly, remember to be kind.

Advice: Acrylic paint pens are best. Acrylic is waterproof and most paint pens have different tip sizes making the creativity super easy and fun.
