Nevada Gold Mines – Proud to be Your Community Partner
Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) is a joint venture between Barrick and Newmont that combined their significant assets across Nevada in 2019 to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world. NGM produces more than three million ounces a year and employs 7,000 people. The company has five main operations throughout northern Nevada: Carlin, Cortez, Turquoise Ridge, Phoenix, and Long Canyon. These operations encompass a total of 10 underground mines, 12 open pit mines, and several processing facilities. The company also owns a central warehouse and 10 ranches.
NGM’s vision is to create long-term value for all of Nevada, and they live out that vision by embedding the principles of partnership and sustainability into every decision.
“The profitability of our business and our community engagement go hand in hand. By supporting our employees, suppliers, and stakeholders — while minimizing the environmental impacts of our operations — we bring sustainable long-term social and economic benefits to Nevada.”
In 2023, Nevada Gold Mines’ community social investments amounted to $18.9M and the total economic value distributed to the State of Nevada, including these social investments with the addition of taxes, goods and services purchased in Nevada, and personnel costs provided a total of $3.1B.
NGM hosts Community Development Committees (CDC) in each of the communities that they operate in. These CDCs are advisory groups made up of local stakeholders that nominate community development projects for NGM funding consideration, helping to ensure that funded projects meet the needs of local communities. The partnership these committees create between businesses, nonprofit organizations, and the community helps drive valuable change and improvements.
The Elko/Eureka Community Development Committee is currently led by Tyler Ingram, Elko County District Attorney and includes diverse representation from local government, non-profit, and business leaders.
One of the most notable projects of the Elko CDC is the Nevada Gold Mines Early Learning Centers which was created in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club to help alleviate childcare shortages within the community and provide extended hours to accommodate mine employee schedules.
NGM’s workplace giving program, the Heritage Fund gives additional support to local communities by empowering employees to donate to nonprofit organizations of their choice. More than $3M in contributions have been donated to over 800 nonprofit organizations since the program’s inception by NGM employees, including the 120% company match to qualified nonprofit organizations.
“Nevada Gold Mines is committed to making positive impacts in the communities where we operate, and our home state of Nevada. We are proud to be your community partner!”
NGM recently celebrated the opening of their newest mine, Goldrush. The operation has an expected 24-year mine life and is anticipated to provide 500 jobs during its construction and employment for 570 people once operational. Goldrush will further enhance the value that the company brings to the state of Nevada through taxes, employment, and community support. More than $300 million of a $1 billion capital budget has been spent on the project which is expected to produce $326 million in net proceeds tax and a further $142 million in gold and silver excise tax for education in Nevada under the new mine tax framework.
