What is Anacabe? Anacabe is a Basque family name from the province of Bizkaia in northern Spain.
Who founded the first store in McDermitt, Nevada, then Berkeley, California and finally, Elko, Nevada? Joe Anacabe
When did Joe Anacabe come to the USA and what did he do for a living? Joe came at the turn of the 19th century. He was born in February of 1888 and came about the time he became a teenager. He claimed he was penniless three times in his life. He came to work for another Joe Anacabe in Humboldt County, Nevada. Joe was a buckaroo, 10 horse team driver, ranch owner and eventually a merchant. There are many Anacabe’s with the first name Joe and we’ll work on those curiosities during the year also.
