The ALS Association Nevada Chapter to host First annual Elko Nevada Walk to Defeat ALS on September 9th, 2023 outside at Great Basin College.
Event aims to raise $25,000 to provide care and support to Elko and surrounding Northern Nevadans living with ALS
The ALS Association Nevada Chapter will host its first annual Elko Nevada Walk to Defeat ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease on Saturday, Sept. 9th. This walk will take place outside at Great Basin College located at Chilton Circle withcheck-in beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the walk beginning at noon. Attendees will enjoy a half-mile walk with snacks, a raffle, face painting, music, lawn games and more. We invite everyone in the community to come out and show their support!
“This walk creates a sense of community and belonging for individuals living with ALS and the family members who care for them,” said Jen Larsen, Walk Manager for ALS. “This walk is one of the biggest ways to support ALS patients in Northern Nevada while also helping with research efforts to find a cure. With help from our community, we’re excited to reach our goal of $25,000 in Elko as we continue to support these efforts.”
Nevada ALS families, friends and community members are invited to join the colorful walk by wearing one of four different colored Unlock ALS lanyards in red, yellow, blue and white to represent a person’s connection to ALS. While the walk is free to participants, walkers must register as part of a team (and wear matching shirts) or as an individual. Once registered, online profiles are created, and participants will be able to share their link in an effort to fundraise for the cause. For those not able to attend, the option to donate to a walker is also available. To register for the walk or donate to the event, visit the Walk to Defeat ALS page at https://secure.alsanv.org/elkowalk, or under events on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ALSANV.
