January is here! With that comes feelings of a fresh start, new opportunities, and goal crushing. That’s what we typically think about, right? While this is true, this is also a great time to start planning your flower and vegetable gardens. It’s never too early! Starting now allows you to really take the time to reflect on last season. Or, if you’re new to gardening, this gives you plenty of time to research and choose the right plants for you.
Some things to consider:
How much maintenance do you want to do?
Do you want to change locations of beds, containers, or even your perennials?
What parts of your yard have sun and shade?
If you travel frequently in the warm months, consider a drip system. A drip system is an almost fool-proof way to keep your plants thriving while you are away.
It’s exciting getting to plan out your garden for the year, however sometimes it can be overwhelming. We recommend putting pencil to paper and drawing out your space. This way, you can better visualize where things will go and see the bigger picture. Once you figure out what plants you’d like, you can take it one step further and use colored pencils to make sure your colors are arranged how you want them.
After you have your plans finalized, the fun begins when you put your hands in the soil. We still have a few months of waiting—so get that imagination flowing and create something beautiful!
Happy New Year and Happy Planting!
