Brown Legacy Award

The American Heart Association honored retired Northside and Grammar Elementary School Physical Education Teacher Mike Brown of the Elko County School District with the creation of the Brown Legacy Award. BreeAna Klekas, his successor and American Heart Association Representative Leland Brandon, who leads the Kids Heart Challenge for Nevada, came up with a way to honor Mike for his incredible contributions to the Kids Heart Challenge in our community. From 1987 through 2020 Mike raised $128,000 for the Kids Heart Challenge. The Brown Legacy Award was present to Mike on February 4th in a surprise presentation at Northside Elementary School.
