Season of Giving
Contributed by Elko Veterinary Clinic
As we move into the Christmas season at the end of this very long and difficult year, Elko Veterinary Clinic is reflecting on what we are grateful for and ways that we can help our community of pets.
We are reflecting on service and ways that we can help owners and pets in our community. The clinic maintains a Community Cares Fund we use this fund throughout the year for pets in need of a little extra assistance. In the past this has been used for pets affected by accidents and natural disasters such as wildfires, families that have fallen on hard times and unexpected pet emergencies.
One thing that we can count on is that life is unpredictable. There are both good and bad surprises. The pleasant surprises are always easier to accept and address, but it feels like the negative ones come more often and at the worst time. Working in the veterinary field we see numerous surprises on a daily basis and understand the challenges and heart wrenching nature of emergencies situations. Some recent cases that benefited from the Community Care Fund was a cat with severe burns that was rescued from the California wildfires, a dog that was severely injured in a dog attack, and a goat that was transported to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary to be adopted out and given a prosthetic limb.
Elko Veterinary Clinic has for many years done a Santa Paws event every year in December. This is an event for pets and their owners to have pictures taken with Santa Claus. This year it will be on December 13th at the Elko Veterinary Clinic from 10-2. There will be a photographer present to take professional pictures. There is no charge for this. In the past we have asked for can food donations, but do to COVID-19 restrictions, food banks cannot take food donations and are asking for grocery store gift cards. This year we are asking for monetary donations to the Community Cares Fund, so that we can build this up going into the new year. Even a few dollars will help and we appreciate anything that is given in these uncertain times. We will follow social distancing guidelines and ask that masks be worn inside the building (humans only).
We want to say a deep and sincere Thank You to anyone who may have contributed to this fund. Thank you for your generosity and for helping us to keep this available for our community pets in need. We hope to see you at Santa Paws! We wish everyone a very safe and healthy holiday season and a very Merry Christmas!
