During this event, staff from the Sheriff’s Office, Elko Police Department, Nevada Highway Patrol and other local law enforcement agencies will be preparing and serving BBQ’ed chorizos, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and cold drinks for $6.  If you can’t come to the Sheriff’s Office to meet your Elko Special Olympic athletes and volunteers and have a delicious lunch, we will deliver them to you. Call 775-397-0040 or email amarin@elkocountynv.net by July 9th to place your delivery order or get raffle information. Oh…we have awesome raffle prizes donated by area businesses.  We will be raffling off a riding lawn mower!!

COPS & BURGERS is the third and final Special Olympics fundraiser for Elko special-needs athletes of the year. In March, our community partnered with local law enforcement agencies and generous local businesses to raise more than $20,000 at this year’s Special Olympics Polar Plunge.  Brave “plungers” weathered a cold and snowy day to slide into an ice -filled pool for our local athletes. Our Sheriff, deputies, police officers, highway patrol troopers and other law enforcement officers served local residents at our annual Tip-a-Cop fundraiser at JR’s in May. These hard-working professionals earned $2,500 in tips for our athletes. Our athletes could not train, practice, compete and develop life skills and good sportsmanship with the continued support of our incredibly generous community.  THANK YOU!!!!

Your Special Olympic athletes and volunteer coaches have been busy representing Elko in track and field competition against other athletes from across the state of Nevada.

Athletes traveled to Reno for the regional games on May 19th and we just returned from the state Summer Games held on June 1st.  A total of 450 athletes and coaches from Nevada participated in this year’s Summer Games.  The athletes competed, received medals and ribbons from law enforcement agencies from all over our great state including three representatives from our very own Elko County Sheriff’s Office.  Athletes also participated in Health Athletes. HA is a program lead by nurses, physicians and medical professionals that evaluates, educates and mentors our athletes on all aspects of health and healthy living. The incredible weekend was capped off by an evening of dancing to their favorite songs!

Please…come meet local Special Olympic athletes, coaches and supporting law enforcement professionals at the Sheriff’s Office Parking lot on July 10th for our annual COPS & BURGERS or call in your order for a delicious lunch.
